Chickamauga mapping party will give FLW College Invitational anglers an advantage
HIXON, TN – Want to get a competitive advantage in the Oct. 18-19 FLW College Fishing Southeastern Invitational on Lake Chickamauga? Attend the Lowrance-Insight Genesis mapping party here on Oct. 12.
All attendees will receive a one-of-a-kind, Insight Genesis map of great fishing locations on Chickamauga. Perhaps more importantly, Southeastern Invitational anglers that don’t attend the mapping party won’t get that map.
“For anglers skilled at reading maps, this could provide a huge advantage in the tournament,” says Lowrance’s Candler McCollum, who will not only be hosting the mapping party, but fishing in the tournament as well. McCollum qualified for the tournament when he and Auburn University teammate William Bates won the FLW College Fishing Southeastern Conference tournament on Clarks Hill March 1. Custom mapping a spot-on-spot with Insight Genesis was key in their victory.
Insight Genesis is the innovative, online service that empowers anglers to create custom lake maps from sonar data recorded with the Lowrance sonar unit on their own boats.* Beyond detail down to one-foot contours, Insight Genesis offers a feature set that no other DIY-mapping program offers – both bottom-composition maps and vegetation maps.
Upon graduation from Auburn, McCollum was hired by Lowrance to spread the word about Insight Genesis. In that role, he will be meeting with college fishing teams across the country, handing out loaner Lowrance GPS/sonar units and explaining to college anglers how they can compete to win Lowrance HDS Gen 2 Touch-12 units for themselves and their team in the Insight Genesis College Cup. He will also be hosting numerous mapping parties in advance of tournaments on top bass waters across the Southeast.
“Anglers that participate in the mapping parties will get one-of-a-kind maps, because all of the contour data collected in the events will be aggregated and shared with the other participants before it’s added to Insight Genesis Social Map,” McCollum explains. “Essentially, we’re giving you a one-week head start on using Social Map to find and catch fish in areas other than those tired, old community holes that everybody knows.”
Anglers in the Lowrance community have already used Insight Genesis to map with incredible detail 9,659 of Chickamauga’s 30,000-plus acres. They’ve shared all of that bottom-contour data for other Lowrance anglers to enjoy via Insight Genesis Social Map. All of that data, plus existing Lake Insight contour data will be aggregated with the sonar data gathered in the mapping party, creating the most-up-to-date and detailed map in existence for Chickamauga. Insight Genesis Social Map is an online database of custom contour maps generated and shared by community-minded Lowrance users.
The Chickamauga mapping party will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (you can map all day, if you wish to). Meet at the boat ramp at Chester Frost Park, near Hixon. McCollum or another Lowrance rep will be stationed at the ramp on Saturday, Oct. 11, to answer questions in advance of the event. Lowrance + Insight Genesis = See More, Catch More!
One-foot contour lines on Insight Genesis maps are much more accurate than the estimated contour lines on many off-the-shelf, digital chip maps that not only miss, but often obscure, fish-holding structure of interest to anglers.
With Insight Genesis Social Map, you can quickly and effortlessly get detailed contour maps of thousands of water bodies, including those close to home, across the country, and around the globe. Built on a base layer of existing contour charts, Social Map refreshes itself in near real-time with current sonar data shared by the Insight Genesis community, revealing new fishing holes for anglers in never-before-seen detail.
To make your own custom contour maps and contribute them to the Social Map community, you don’t have to survey a lake all at once, driving back and forth and never wetting a line. You can simply record a sonar log every time you go fishing. Over time, your uploads of sonar data collected in multiple fishing trips will come together to form a master map, full of detailed, one-foot contour lines that identify fish-holding structure.
You can harness the power of Insight Genesis for yourself with a free account or a premium subscription. With either, you can create, use and save unlimited custom and social maps online; contribute sonar data; create, edit and store waypoints; manually adjust water-level offsets; and analyze weather trends.
Premium subscribers can load their custom maps and Social Map charts onto their compatible* Lowrance Elite HDI, HDS*, Simrad NS Series or B&G Zeus GPS or chartplotters for use on the water. As a Premium subscriber, you can also create unique bottom-hardness and vegetation-location maps, and can choose to mark your maps as private for personal use only. No matter which option you choose, your trails, waypoints and other personal data are always kept private.
