New Mapping Service Enhancement Allows Users to Export GPX Formatted Files
Tulsa, Okla. – GoFree – the provider of digital content and services and part of the Navico family of marine electronics brands including Lowrance, Simrad and B&G – announced today the addition of GPX file export directly from the Insight Genesis™ map-making tool. This new feature allows consumers to create maps with third-party services such as Reefmaster, Navionics SonarCharts™ and others – using sonar log data exported as a GPX file from Insight Genesis.
Building on its open platform commitment, the new GoFree functionality allows boaters to integrate Insight Genesis generated sonar recordings with their choice of third-party hardware and software tools. Offering the ability to export position, date and depth data from .SLG, .SL2 and now .SL3, sonar recording formats to the universal .GPX file type, the new enhanced functionality allows for easy integration with popular third-party products. Combining the latest advancements in sonar and web technology for rapid data update as recording formats change, Insight Genesis ensures more accurate data output and consistent results when using proprietary and third-party software for analysis.
“Never before has the consumer been able to make a map from a Lowrance, Simrad or B&G chartplotter, then export that map data for use on any third-party chartplotter or charting software,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. “No other marine electronics company is as committed as Navico to ensuring that all boaters have access to our cloud-based open-source platform, as well as the ability to access the most up-todate maps and charts.”
To export a GPX file, users simply upload a sonar recording to Insight Genesis using a FREE or Premium account either via SD card or directly from a wirelessly connected multifunction display. Once processing is complete, the new log file will appear in the user’s Insight Genesis dashboard with an option to export a GPX formatted file. Clicking on the GPX link offers the ability to open or save the file for use with products from Lowrance, Simrad, B&G and GoFree or other third-party products such as Reefmaster and Navionics SonarCharts.
A GoFree cloud-enabled software service exclusive to the Navico family of brands of Lowrance, Simrad and B&G, Insight Genesis is an easy-to-use tool that allows boaters to open a free account, upload sonar logs recorded on a multifunction display, and download up-to-date, personalized contour maps via PC or MFD.
